Pacific Northwest Vivarium Society
identity / Web / creative direction
The Pacific Northwest Vivarium Society is a regional organization focused on promoting the practice and pursuit of what the society calls "vivarium culture." Vivariums (Latin for place of life) are naturalistic displays of living plants and sometimes animals that can be incorporated into living spaces in order to bring a bit of the outside, in.
The logo design uses clean lines and font to invoke a contemporary and innovative approach to vivarium construction and care, and a vintage fern illustration (set within the bounds of a box) provides a nod to the centuries-old history of Wardian cases, terrariums and aquariums. The illustration itself can be replaced with other illustrations of plants, animals, etc. to communicate the diversity of life represented by these miniature displays of nature.
